Winter Coat Give Away - Warmth for the Soul

We have been collecting coats for about three weeks now. Next Saturday morning, between 8 and noon, we will give them away to whoever shows up. We've been in touch with a number of local agencies and are assured that the need is great and has not been addressed.

When we put out the call for people to bring their clean coats in, we had hoped to get 100 plus coats to hand out. Well, our church has responded well and so has the community.....overwhelmingly well!

We currently have over 500 coats and they're still coming in! We have new coats, old coats, babies coats, adult coats, kids coats, heavy coats, light coats, leather, denim, cloth, nylon, corduroy, linen, sherpa, long, short and in-between coats.

What a joy to see so may people respond to a need in the community in such an outstanding way!

Friday, between 10 Am and 5 PM, we will begin the task of sorting the coats. If you're in the area, come in and give us a hand. You can help distribute them on Saturday morning between 8 AM and Noon. If all the coats are not handed out, we have a number of community organizations that are eager to take whatever is left over.

We've been in the local paper and have been promoting the give away throughout the community using PSAs, banners, posters and our bus!

We really want this to be a community event. The goal is not to bring more folks into the Sunday morning service (although they are certainly welcome). The goal is to share the love of Christ and the grace of God with those around us. We'll put a gospel hand out in the pocket of each coat. We'll have folks standing by if anyone would like to pray or chat (you can be one of them that are there to help and minister).

We've got only one message, "God loves you.", no strings, no demands, no obligations. This is what the church does, reaches out and shares Christ, not just in words, but in actions.

‘For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’
Matt 25:35-36

Come and be a part of what God is doing among us.
