Small Town, Iowa

Recently I drove through several small towns. Most prairie towns do not have much to offer visually in early spring. But a few had some points of interest.

Here's a statute in honor of fire fighters.

He is looking over at the local fire station. Behind that you see the icon of any small town, the water tower.

I was impressed with the details of this sculpture.

This old hotel was interesting. Like many small town hotels, it sits across the street from the courthouse.

Such buildings have become apartments and are often run down. But there was a time when the best meal in town was served here. I liked the old sign. Like the building, it has seen better days.

This Civil War soldier is standing guard over the small town courthouse.

Inside the courthouse, it looks like the school I went to years ago. I noticed the light fixtures in particular. I was waiting for the bell to sound!

The wood work in these buildings is still remarkable.

Someone in this town had the courage to brighten things up a bit! I liked this splash of color a lot. That takes the edge off an otherwise boring landscape!

Whether it is a small town or large city, there are always interesting things to see.

Thanks for stopping by.
