Summer Rain and Crickets

This morning we had another rain storm in Iowa. We have had a lot of rain the past couple of days. Rainfall amounts of 4 to 6 inches have been common. The days are excruciatingly hot and humid and this makes things perfect for summer storms.

Even though such heavy rain is not good, I find the lightning fascinating.

I am one of those people who stand outside and watch the lightning. Of course when it starts to get too close, I get inside but I still find it one of nature's true wonders.

There is something calming about listening to the thunder in the distance, seeing the flashes of lightning and hearing the gentle rain.

Here is a video I took early this morning. You can hear crickets chirping and hear thunder. The clicking noise you hear in the video is actually drops of water hitting the camera. I was standing in the doorway of my barn when I took this video.

My friend Johanna mentioned to me she always liked to hear the sound of crickets when she was on Vancouver Island. Apparently crickets are not common in Vancouver. So here you go! Crickets, crickets, crickets! And a bit of lightning.

Thanks for stopping by.
