Pyrmont Bridge, Darling Harbour

Pyrmont Bridge is a swing bridge that crosses Cockle Bay at Darling Harbour and connects the inner city suburb of Pyrmont with the Sydney central business district. The bridge was opened in 1902 but closed to traffic in the 1980s when freeways south of Cockle Bay were built. It reopened as a pedestrian bridge with the redevelopment of Darling Harbour in 1988. It also carries an elevated monorail with a track that remains stationary so that the monorails can continue to cross even when the bridge swings open for large boats.

Wolloomooloo, Finger Wharf

Wolloomooloo Wharf, also known as the Finger Wharf, viewed from The Domain on the foreshore of Wolloomooloo Bay. Built in 1915, it was a working wharf until the 1970s. It was redeveloped into a hotel, apartments, restaurants and a marina in the 1990s. The newer apartments built at the end of the wharf are some of the most expensive in Sydney. The name Woolloomooloo is believed to be derived from an Aboriginal word, either Wallamullah meaning 'place of plenty' or Wallabahmullah meaning a 'young black kangaroo'.

Balmain, ferry wharf

Balmain Wharf, also known as the Thames Street Wharfsits on Mort Bay in Balmain. It is serviced by Sydney Ferries, with regular services between Circular Quay and Parramatta. Sydney Harbour Bridge, Goat Island and the inner west suburb of Balmain East can be seen in the distance.

Birchgrove, barge

This industrial barge is involved in dredging, trenching, pipeline construction and laying underwater cables, by Oil and Gas Engineered Systems (OES). When it isn’t being used in Sydney Harbour, Botany Bay or other Sydney waterways, it is moored in Snails Bay, near the inner west suburb of Birchgrove. Woolloomooloo, boat

This boat with very tall masts was moored at the marina in Woolloomooloo Bay, beside the Finger Wharf in the inner city suburb of Woolloomooloo. The old warehouse buildings on the wharf have been converted into a hotel, apartments and restaurants. Most of the boats moored here belong to residents of these exclusive apartments.

Millers Point, boats

These rescue boats and harbour pilot boats are moored at Moore's Wharfon Walsh Bay, in the inner city suburb of Millers Point. The vessels, outside the Operational Headquarters of the Sydney Ports Corporation, are used on Sydney Harbour. The Harbour Control Tower was once used for the the city's port facilities, at what is now known as Barangaroo.

Birchgrove, Ballast Point Park

This contemporary sun shelter over these benches is located in Ballast Point Park at Birchgrove. It's designed to provide shade when the sun is at its harshest, in the middle of the day, yet still provides views of the sky. The benches provide spectacular views over Mort Bay and Sydney Harbour, with Goat Island and the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the distance.

Birchgrove, Lady Wakehurst

The Lady Wakehurst is a former Sydney ferry that is normally moored at Snails Bay at Birchgrove.This 144 foot motor vessel was launched in 1974 and remained in service until 1996, but has been used occasionally when other ferries were out of service. It can now be chartered for cruises on Sydney Harbour for up to 650 passengers. The ferry is named after Lady Margaret Wakehurst, wife of Baron John De Vere Loder Wakehurst, former Governor of New South Wales.

Pyrmont, Jones Bay Wharf

A view of Jones Bay Wharf, in the inner city suburb of Pyrmont, with Barangaroo and the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the distance. Jones Bay Wharf consists of Piers 19-21 of Pyrmont Wharves. This marina on Jones Bay sits beside Pier 21. The wharf and warehouse buildings were originally built in 1919, as part of Sydney's port facilities. After those port facilities were relocated to Port Botany, the buildings were redeveloped in 2003 into commercial space.

Balmain East, Mort Bay

The Borrowdale is a First Fleet Class ferry, which is part of the Sydney Ferries fleet. It's seen here travelling past Simmons Point Reserve and a private marina, heading towards the Balmain ferry wharf.

Campbells Cove, Vivid Sydney, FireDance

This show on the wharves around Campbells Cove at The Rocks was a spectacle of dancing fire and music, during the Vivid Sydney festival. "FireDance" was created by Australian pyrotechnics company Howard & Sons, which has produced some of the world's most memorable fireworks shows since 1922. The show involved 40 firejets, that flare and flame in a choreographed balletic performance to the Stravinsky's classical "Firebird Suite" and Katy Perry's pop hit "Firework", remixed by Peewee Ferris.

This small bridge on Walsh Bay at Dawes Point, links pier one to pier two at the Walsh Bay wharves. The orange & white banners and flags are for the 2011 Sydney Writers' Festival which has been running for the past week in many of the theatres and venues around the Walsh Bay precinct.

Rozelle, marina

This marina is located on Iron Cove, just east of the Iron Cove Bridge, off Bridgewater Park in the inner west suburb of Rozelle. The sun was setting on a crisp autumn day with the mostly clear sky providing some wonderful reflections in the water.
