This fence and elaborate gate, an entrance to Domremy College, are located on First Avenue, in the inner west suburb of Five Dock. The Catholic church bought this estate in 1911 and created a private school, administered by the Presentation Order Sisters until 1997. It had developed infants, primary and secondary departments but the the infants and primary departments of the College were phased out. It is now a Catholic girls high school for Years 7 to 12.
These decorative gates are part of Sandringham Gardens in Hyde Park North. Sandringham Gardens were developed to commemorate the intended visit of King George VI in 1952, which was cancelled due to his sudden death. In 1953, it was decided to dedicate the gardens as a joint memorial to the late King George V and the late King George VI. The memorial gates were unlocked on 5 February 1954 by the late King George VI's daughter, Queen Elizabeth II.
The Queen Elizabeth II Gate at the Royal Botanic Gardens is located along the foreshore of Farm Cove, near the Sydney Opera House. This was the original entrance to the botanic gardens, then known as the "Man O’ War Gate" because Farm Cove had been a commonly used sheltered anchorage for warships and their crews came ashore nearby at the Man O' War Steps. They were renamed in 1954 during the first royal visit of Queen Elizabeth II to Australia. The botanic gardens also features the Queen Elizabeth II Memorial, which commemorates where the queen first set foot on Australian soil.
A brilliant blue winter's sky above the Conservatorium Gate of the Royal Botanic Gardens, close to Macquarie Street and beside the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. The surrounding bushes in bloom are adding a bit of colour at this time of year.
This is the middle section of the gates at the entrance to Ballast Point Park, in the inner west suburb of Birchgrove. This contemporary design features part of the name of the park in each section of the gate. This former industrial site was transformed into a pulblic park in 2009. The Sydney city skyline can be seen just peeking through and above the gate.
This control tower and gate are located on the Pyrmont Bridge, a swing bridge over Cockle Bay in Darling Harbour. The bridge was designed by Percy Allan and opened to traffic in 1902. It was one of the largest spanning swing bridges in the world and one of the first to be powered by electricity. It was closed to traffic in the 1980s when freeways south of Cockle Bay were built but reopened as a pedestrian bridge with the redevelopment of Darling Harbour in 1988. The bridge also carries an elevated monorail which travels between the central business district and Darling Harbour. The monorail track rests on a pivot that allows the track to remain stationary while the bridge swings underneath, so that the monorails can continue to cross even when the bridge is opened for large boats and yachts.
