Botanic Gardens, Marble Lions
This is one of two sculpted lions, in white Italian marble, located in the Botanic Gardens. They were originally part of the layout of the Garden Palace grounds and installed around 1882. They were removed during the construction of the Cahill Expressway and put in storage for decades. They were reinstalled on concrete footings in the Garden Palace grounds in 1994, on the northern side of the Rose Garden, with the Conservatorium of Music behind them.

Oatlands, folly
This folly or rotunda is located in the grounds of Oatlands House, in the north western suburb of Oatlands. A folly is an extravagant decorative structure designed more for artistic expression than practicality. The wrought iron lacework on top looks brilliant against a blue sky.

Government House
Government House is located alongside the Royal Botanic Gardens, overlooking Sydney Harbour. It was formerly the official residence, and remains the official reception space, of the Governor of New South Wales. It was designed by Edward Blore, in the Gothic revival architectural style. Building commenced in 1837 with Governor George Gipps becoming the first resident in 1845. It is now managed by the Historic Houses Trust of New South Wales as a museum. A view in the opposite direction can be seen here.

Telopea, Waratah Shopping Centre
Waratah Shopping Centre is a group of shops located along Benaud Place in the western suburb of Telopea. The name of the suburb comes from Telopea Speciosissima, a native flower that was abundant in the area before European settlement. The telopea is more commonly known as the Waratah, which is also the floral emblem of the state of New South Wales. While the shops here are certainly not architectural wonders, they have tried to enhance the area with a colourful graffiti mural down the side of the shops and this nature strip garden, in the middle of the road.

Toongabbie, Portico Park
Portico Park is located in the western suburb of Toongabbie. This walkway, with this tall lamp as a centre piece, links the railway station with the shopping centre. The name Toongabbie is derived from an Aboriginal word, reported as meaning 'place by the water or the meeting of the waters'. The name was used by early European settlers from 1792 after Governor Arthur Phillip asked the local Aborigines what they called this area.
