Center For Working Families

Center For Working Families (CWF) is open for business in Englewood! Stop by the Center For Working Families which is operated by by Jane Addams Hull House Association located at Kennedy King College, 747 West 63rd Street, Room V-106. (CWF) is a career and personal financial service center directly on the campus. Everyone is encouraged to use this program! All CWF services are provided FREE of charge.

Core Services provided are:
* Employment Services - job readiness training, job placement assistance, job  retention support, career advancement services, and enhanced access to education and training opportunities through Kennedy-King College and the City Colleges of Chicago.

* Financial Literacy Services - one-on-one financial coaching

* Income Support Services - assistance accessing all benefits to which clients are entitled, such as Food Stamps, Child Care Subsidies, Utilities Assistance, and  Housing.

* Family Net Center Technology --resources are available in the on-site Family Net Center (FNC). The FNC provides computer training an open access resource room, and is a community-based hub for technology learning, education access, and information sharing.

Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

The City of Chicago and UL are proud to present the official start of the holiday season the 98th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, Wednesday, November 23, 2011! The Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is a highly-anticipated event drawing people of all ages to the heart of Chicago’s downtown “Loop.” Musical performances and festive holiday music begin at 4:30pm and the holiday season officially commences at 5:00pm, when the switch is flipped and the lights begin to dazzle in Daley Plaza.

Music will begin at 4:30pm, tree will be lit at 5pm. Daley Plaza is located at Washington St. and Dearborn St. Admission is free.

Daley College Open House

Courtesy of the Manufacturing Technology Institute, on November 10, 2011 the Manufacturing and Logistics programs of Richard J. Daley College will host an Open House.

There will be two sessions: 10 am to 1 pm;  and again from 4 pm to 7 pm.

Our students will provide demonstrations of advanced manufacturing technology and faculty will be on hand to answer questions and provide detailed information on our programs.

Young Adult Internship Program

As part of Mayor Bloomberg's Center for Economic Opportunity, DYCD is providing the most job-ready disconnected youth with short-term paid internships, job placements, and follow-up services. 

The Young Adult Internship Program (YAIP) is a 14-week internship program for low-income New York City young adults aged 16-24 who are not working and not in school. YAIP is composed of a 2- to 4-week orientation conducted by selected community-based organizations followed by 10- to 12- week paid internships that offer structured work opportunities. This year-round program, serving approximately 1,360 youth per year, incorporates ongoing education, as well as other participant and employer supports. Upon completion of the internship, the organizations will provide nine months of follow-up services and help place the participants in permanent jobs, training programs, or educational settings.

People's Gas, ComEd and CEDA present Community Outreach Day, to be hosted by Alderman Roderick Sawyer (6th), Alderman Toni Foulkes (15th), Alderman JoAnn Thompson (16th), Alderman Latasha Thomas (17th) and Alderman Willie B. Cochran (20th), at Kennedy King College.
State, city and community services will be available for the public to access in one location:

• Apply for grants to help pay or reconnect your gas or lights
• Receive information on your pending CEDA application

Please bring the following:

1. Proof of household income for the past 30 days.
2. Current Rental Lease Agreement (ID required).
3. Original Social Security cards for all members of your household.
4. Original current electric and gas bills. (If your utilities are included in your rent payments, it must be stated in your lease agreement to receive a cash payment.)
5. Proof of home ownership is required for emergency furnace.
