Alison Waite

Alison Waite

Alison Waite
Briefcase number 14 please! I would probably choose that briefcase if I was the player on the game show “Deal or No Deal”. And why not? If this stunning babe was the one holding it. Aside from that show, Alison Waite was also featured in several men’s magazines particularly in Playboy. She’s an optimistic type of girl and a food lover. Hmmm, I wonder how did she maintain such a nice figure?

World’s Oldest Woman In Texas Dies At 114

A Texas woman believed to be the world's oldest person died yesterday at the official age of 114, although she had maintained she was in fact 115.

Eunice Sanborn died at 6 a.m. at her home in Jacksonville, her close pal and caretaker, David French, told the Jacksonville Daily Progress.

"The Lord just called her home," French said. "He has been using her as influential witness for 115 years."

Census records show Sanborn was born on July 20, 1896, in Lake Charles, La., according to the Los Angeles-based Gerontology Research Group, which titled Sanborn as the world's oldest person.

But French said Sanborn always maintained the Census Bureau had made a mistake and she was actually born in 1895. She celebrated what she supposed was her 115th birthday on July 20, Agence France-Presse reported.

"It was a very calm death. She was not uncomfortable," French said.

Sanborn became known as the world's oldest person on Nov. 4, when French nun Eugenie Blanchard died at age 114 on the French Caribbean island of St. Barthelemy, The Associated Press said.

The title now goes to 114-year-old Besse Cooper, who was born on Aug. 26, 1896, and lives in Georgia, the Gerontology Research Group said.

Walter Breuning, of Montana, also 114, now becomes the world's second-oldest person. He was born Sept. 21, 1896.

Sanborn was marital and widowed three times, according to a 2008 profile in the Houston Chronicle. Her third spouse died in 1979. She also outlived her only child, a daughter.

What Valentine's Day Means to Me- Shutterfly Valentine Card Giveaway

A romantic at heart I have always loved Valentine's day- flowers, wine, romance... and chcocolate.

It's fabulous.

Even as a kid I loved Valentine's Day- I always got excited when it was time to decorate our card boxes or bags for the class Valentine party and my grandma and I always made cute handmade Valentine's. Even though my childhood is long gone and my grandma passed away over a decade ago I still have our heart shaped box full of heart shapes, cutouts and stencils. I've used my grandma's designs to make Valentine cards with my kids over the years.

I think Valentine's Day is about more than just romantic love- it reminds us to tell anyone special in our lives that we love them. It's sweet, it's sappy and it's exactly what we need sometimes- a heart and a smile and something sweet.

In 2002 Valentine's day became extra special to me.

My boyfriend and I were going on two years together and we were pretty serious but I didn't know if I was the type to get married.

He was.

That Valentine's Day he proposed in a simple but super sweet and kind of unique way.

He handed me my Valentine card and a pen. I had no idea why he handed me a pen. or why as I opened the card he knelt down on the floor in front of me. As I was reading it I came to the bottom of the card where he had written

"Will you marry me? Check yes or no."

And there were two little boxes for me to choose from.

I didn't even have to think about it I said yes and checked the little box. When I looked up again he was holding a ring box. The ring was beautiful. The proposal was sweet and it's something I will never forget. And yes, my husband is a George Strait fan for those who recognized the reference to the song "Check Yes or No".

So now Valentine's Day means something really special to me- it's the day my husband proposed.

I still share Valentine's with friends and family- especially our kids.

We love making cards together when time allows.

And now thanks to Shutterfly we can make cards extra special by adding fun family photos to them.

HALLE BERRY IN A GOLD TAILORED AFRICAN INSPIRED FABRIC “BROCADE” SUIT

Federal judge voids entire Obamacare law

A federal judge has declared 100 percent of Obamacare is unconstitutional, based on his key ruling that the the individual mandate, requiring persons to purchase healthcare insurance, is unconstitutional.
U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson, appointed to the bench by President Ronald Reagan in 1983, ruled that the reform law's so-called "individual mandate" went too far in requiring that Americans start buying health insurance in 2014 or pay a penalty.

"Because the individual mandate is unconstitutional and not severable, the entire act must be declared void. This has been a difficult decision to reach, and I am aware that it will have indeterminable implications," Vinson wrote.
What matters most here is that the mandate is "not severable," which is proof (if any were needed) of how badly written the act is. As I wrote in November,
Severability clauses are common in public laws and contracts. The clause specifies that if a section of the bill or contract is found to be invalid, then only the affected section is stricken. The rest of the bill or contract remains in force.

There is no "severability" clause in the Obamacare bill.
What that omission means is that Judge Vinson had the discretion on whether to strike down part of the law or all of it. He chose the latter, and bully good for him. Last month, a federal judge in Virginia also struck down the individual mandate, but did not invoke the law's lack of a severability clause to invalidate the whole act.

Donald Trump for president?

Donald Trump says he may run for the White House in '12. If he makes it, he doubtless tell the whole staff there now, "You're fired!"
Trump says if he does run it will be as a Republican and not as a third party candidate, and explains why he would run.

"I love the country. I’ve done well in the country. My businesses have never been better because I’ve made some good decisions. It shouldn’t be good. It should be terrible because a lot of other businesses are terrible. But I’ve made some very good decisions.

“I love the country and I hate what’s happening to the country. In 12 years China will take over as the world’s leading economic power, if not sooner, and the way we’re going this country will not be a great country as it was anymore. That’s so very very sad to me."
Forty dollar oil?
Trump has a surprising response to speculation that the turmoil in Egypt and other countries in the Middle East could push oil prices to as high as $200 a barrel.

“It also could go the other way. Frankly, the Middle East is a tinderbox. It’s going to explode. OPEC will probably be destroyed if it explodes, and oil prices could go the other way.

“I understand economics. You break up what would normally be an illegal monopoly, OPEC, and break it up very strongly. The Middle East is exploding, and I’m saying that could have a positive impact on oil prices.

“If you look at oil right now, it’s soon going to be $100 a barrel. Far too high. It’s set by OPEC. I think OPEC would explode with the Middle East and that wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world." ...

Asked where he thinks the price of oil is headed, Trump responds: “I think it could go, with proper leadership, down to $40 a barrel. I think if we continue the way it is, it’s going to go up to $150 a barrel."

A Little Cabin Fever Relief Thanks to CSN Stores

Two things I am considering buying from CSN for the kids' swingset

I don't know about everyone else but I am suffering from cabin fever.

The cold weather has me all bundled up and ready to hibernate- but since I'm not a bear I can't. I also don't want to go outside. I'm not a fan of cold weather. I'm definitely not a fan of bundling up like a Sherpa just to go to the store.

So I stay inside and dream of warmer days.

I've started to plan my garden. I am deciding what vegetables to plant this year and see what seeds I have to buy. I am working on some landscaping designs- thinking of adding a few bushes or small trees.

I also want more outdoor living space. I would love a deck or patio out back with a nice fire pit and comfy outdoor furniture.

That has lead me to online shopping- or right now browsing.

CSN Stores has an amazing amount of outdoor stuff making me wish spring was closer and my pocketbook was fuller.

They have everything from sheds to greenhouses to kids playhouses. They also have fire pits, and patio furniture.

CSN even has outdoor toys, slip and slides, trampolines and swing sets for kids.

CSN also has swing set accessories. My kids need new swings so I'm adding those to my wishlist for sure.

Even if I can't enjoy spring yet at least I can fantasize about what I'd like to do to my outdoor space once it gets here- thanks in part to my wishlist shopping at CSN Stores.

What would you love to add to your yard or garden once spring gets here? A new bench? Maybe a porch swing? I wish I had a porch big enough for a swing :-)

Whatever you're wishing for check out CSNStores.com, I bet you can find what you're dreaming about thanks to their 200+ stores to choose from.

Rare Sumatran Tiger Gives Birth To Three Cubs In Indonesia

A rare Sumatran tiger has given birth to three cubs at an Indonesian zoo in a welcome boost for the endangered species, an official said.

The big cat gave birth to four cubs at Taman Rimba zoo in Jambi province but one died at once, according to provincial tourism and cultural agency head Didi Wuryanto.

"I'm overjoyed. This is a extraordinary achievement," Wuryanto told AFP.

He said the parents of the cubs, male and female tigers called Peter and Uni, had been shifted to Jambi on Sumatra island from Ragunan zoo in Jakarta.

"It's hard to take care of tigers. Thanks to the effort of the people in the zoo, there is hope now that we can assist in saving the tiger population," he said.

Human-animal conflicts are a increasing problem as people encroach on wildlife habitats in Indonesia, an archipelago with some of the world's largest remaining tropical forests.

There are hardly 400 Sumatran tigers left in the wild in Indonesia, conservation group WWF said.

Sunny and Warm in January by Janet Shangraw

Today is a spectacular day; one of the rare pleasures of January.  The temperature is in the upper 60’s, the sky is blue and I heard birds singing outside the window.  Welcome to Colorado!  Next week the temperature will plummet to the 20’s or below for most of the week.

So today, I’m going to sit in the sun and contemplate how to make my front porch inviting when spring is here to stay.  For the past several years I have been experimenting with a white flower and foliage theme for potted plants that frame my entryway.

By varying plant heights, foliage color, texture, and leaf shape the small, protected (shady) area of my porch becomes a peaceful sanctuary. A little water feature and white flowers to highlight the beautiful textures and colors of the foliage and you are done!

During the winter, look at magazines and seed catalogs to identify interesting textures and colors for plants.  I try to find as many colors of green in the foliage that I pick as possible. Here are two interesting plants that worked well last summer:

·       "Colorblaze Lifelime" coleus  has beautiful lime green foliage (part shade to shade) that grows 20 to 36 inches tall.

coleus is behind the ornamental cabbage

·        Begnoia maculata var. Wightii is a shade-loving begonia with dark green leaves with white polka dots (yes, you read that right!).  The underside of the leaf is a deep red.  It has clusters of white flowers and grows 20 to 30 inches tall.  Mine is blooming still this winter (indoors, of course).

Planting annual grasses in pots also gives nice texture and height.  A few large pots of white impatiens that fill in beautifully over the summer add a little spot of color, but don’t distract from the varieties of foliage.

Once spring is here and the nighttime temperatures are reliably above freezing, I bring my houseplants outside for a summer vacation.  Plant Talk article 1332 (click here to view article 1332) gives practical advice about caring for houseplants outdoors in the summer.  I bring my spider plants, peace lilies, and ferns outside.  They thrive in the summer and form the backdrop for the other plants that I purchase in the spring.

Planting annual grasses in pots also gives nice texture and height.  I throw in a few pots of white impatiens that fill in beautifully over the summer and I’m done!

So enjoy the beautiful days when they come and do some planning.  Spring is on the way!

Rockdale, houses

These beautifully restored homes built in the Victorian architecture style are located in a prominent position in Frederick Street, in the southern suburb of Rockdale. Their designs are almost a mirror image but their owners have chosen very different colour schemes to set them apart.
